General Health Maintenance Guidelines
- 30 minutes of aerobic activity (like brisk walking) at least three to four times a week is recommended (unless a medical condition prohibits it)
- A low-fat, low-cholesterol, relatively low-sugar diet is recommended for all patients
- We strongly advise a no-smoking policy for all patients. We are happy to provide information on smoking cessation aids and programs.
- We recommend the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) for all children as a series of 4 doses, one dose at each of these ages: 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, and 12 through 15 months.
- We recommend the pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV) for all adults 65 years of age and older. A second dose is recommended for people 65 years and older who got their first dose when they were younger than 65 and it has been 5 or more years since the first dose.
- Always use seat belts; statistics show they greatly reduce serious injury
